At a sand and gravel plant the slimes and dirt washed off of
the gravel and aggregate are usually discharged into a series
of settling ponds so that the water may eventually be reused.
The primary settling pond (shown here) can quickly fill up
with material and therefore needs to be periodically cleaned
out.
